The Flemish Circle (De Vlaamse Kring)
The Flemish Association (De Vlaamse Kring) of Greece was founded in 1985 and operates since March 1996 as a non-profit association. It is a Circle for Flemish people and those attracted to Flemish culture and language. You do not need to speak Flemish or Dutch to join, and you may be staying either permanently or only temporarily in Greece to become a member.
GOALS
- Establishing a friendly network and ground for
building relations in between Flemish culture
lovers and their families in Greece
- Reception of newcomers and helping their integration
in the local Flemish and Greek communities
- Organisation of activities to bring the members
closer together and provision of exchange possibilities
also in the Flemish language. Activities being
organised aim at different age groups (children
and adults).
- We also aim at maintaining a number of Flemish
traditions and folklore such as the celebration
of Saint Nicolas, collection of Easter eggs, i.e.
Specific celebrations are cause for a little feast
the Flemish way, even here in Greece.
- The Flemish Circle can play a rather significant
role in making one feel at home in Greece, but
we are available only to the extent you yourself
desire. For most of us it is fulfilling to find
a network that offers the option of regular social
contacts in organised and unorganised forms. Our
activities therefore serve a purpose that is larger
than "fun". We also aim at really supporting our
members in all practical aspects of your local
establishment.
